UTMB Nice training: getting back into shape
After two weeks of suffering from sore ribs following my fall during the DMBA Trail, I was finally able to enjoy a lovely run in one of my favourite places: Mont Dore.
I did, in fact, spend those two weeks continuing my training, but at a reduced intensity. In other words, I stuck to the key sessions, without pushing myself too hard, and even adapted my exercises during the strength training sessions. Even though this creates a bit of stress in relation to the ultimate goal, I prefer to take the time to recover so I can get back into training properly afterwards.
So, a fortnight after the DMBA Trail, as I enjoy the sunrise over Mont Dore, I’m getting ready at a leisurely pace.

This morning, I’m feeling pretty good: on the agenda, 4 hours of exercise and 1,000 metres of elevation gain. I know that the Mont Dore route, which I’m used to doing, is a bit short. So, I decide to add the climb up Pic aux Chèvres. It isn’t long, but the slope is very steep: it’ll be a good workout to finish off the session.
Before that, there’s Mont Dore. Halfway up, the view is already extraordinary.

Once at the summit, I still feel in good shape, and the view… well, as usual, I love it 🙂

Time for a quick snack, and I head back down the same path. As I go, I catch sight of my next goal: the Pic aux Chèvres, which stands as if to touch the clouds.

I continue the descent, taking care to take small steps so as not to put too much strain on my joints, particularly my knees. With the Mont Dore section done, I tackle the Pic aux Chèvres. I’m enjoying this light rain, which is cooling me down.

The closer I get to the summit, the steeper the slope becomes. It’s almost like rock climbing !

I think I’m really enjoying this climb, and of course, the reward is waiting for me. Behind me, all those peaks criss-crossed by trails just waiting to be explored. I tell myself that for long outings this winter, it will be perfect.
